Dare To Make A Choice
For the past 4 Dare lessons with Constable Kendrick, we have talked about the following, Legal Medicine, Alcohol, we looked at pictures and had to asked questions relating to the picture and Assertive behaviour.
When we looked at Legal medicines, we were all given a cardboard medicine box and a prescription for medicine. We then looked at the differences between the two. We discovered that the prescription one is only for one person while anyone could have the medicine that you buy off the shelves at the chemist. For Example:
“Hey Doctor, my baby is really sick with the chickenpox like me, maybe I could give her some of the medicine you gave me,” said the mother.
“No, that would not be a good idea because the chemist have made this medicine specially for you and your requirements. If you gave your baby your medicine he would get even sicker.
For our 5th lesson we looked at different types of Alcohol. There are 3 different types of Alcohol,
Spirits, Wine and Beer. Constable Kendrick gave us each a bottle that had once contained alcohol. I shared a spirit bottle with Melody and our bottle contained 30%-40% of Alcohol and 29 approx glasses. That means that you can only have a very small glass every time you have a spirit and you should mix it with another liquid. You should wait 1 hour if you are an adult and 2 hour if you are a kid before you have another drink. This is because if you have to much it could kill you, and you should never scull alcohol.
In our 6th lesson we got into groups of 3 or 4 to look at pictures of drug related scenarios and had to ask questions about the pictures. There were at least 6 pictures, on of the pictures had a guy behind bars in jail while another had a person pouring tar onto a sheep's lung to show the effect of smoking. Constable Kendrick than told us what the pictures were about and answered our questions.
In the 7th lesson we looked at different types of behaviours. There are three different types of behaviours we talked about they are: Passive, Assertive and Aggressive. Passive behaviour is when you have very low self esteem and you are rather shy. You think of others first in a bad way and you put yourself down. Assertive behaviour is when you have self esteem, make eye contact are confident, honest and you don’t put yourself down. When you are Aggressive you could be physically or Emotionally aggressive. if you are physically aggressive you might punch, kick or hit someone and when you are Emotionally aggressive it’s more about putting people down, and thinking about yourself first. If you are aggressive you may have little self esteem and are basically a bully.
I have really enjoyed the DARE programme and will take things away from it that I will remember for life.
